Somerset is a very small town located in the state of California. With a population of 3,425 people and two associated neighborhoods, Somerset is the 588th largest community in California. Housing costs in Somerset are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don't compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in California.Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Somerset is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Somerset is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Somerset who work in sales jobs (23.12%), healthcare (9.22%), and management occupations (8.41%). There are quite a few people in the armed forces living in Somerset, and when you visit or drive around town, you will see military people in and out of uniform, shopping, enjoying life, and being part of the community. One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 20.54% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes. Somerset’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the nation, making it a very safe place to live. It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Somerset has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Somerset has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Somerset than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Somerset may be for you. Being a small town, Somerset does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.In terms of college education, Somerset is nearly on par with the US average for all cities of 21.84%: 19.62% of adults 25 and older in Somerset have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree. This equates to an annual income of $187,152 for a family of four. However, Somerset contains both very wealthy and poor people as well. Somerset is a somewhat ethnically-diverse town.
