Ferryville Profile

Overview

Ferryville is a tiny village located in the state of Wisconsin. With a population of 180 people and just one neighborhood, Ferryville is the 480th largest community in Wisconsin.

Occupations and Workforce

Ferryville is a blue-collar town, with 49.25% of people working in blue-collar occupations, while the average in America is just 27.7%. Overall, Ferryville is a village of transportation and shipping workers, managers, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Ferryville who work in management occupations (13.43%), food service (11.94%), and office and administrative support (5.97%).

A relatively large number of people in Ferryville telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 14.93% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Ferryville is an extremely popular destination for tourists and seasonal residents. So much of the population is seasonal such that the village’s population swells significantly during the vacation season, and drops again when the season ends. Because of this, much of the local economy is centered around tourism; some businesses may be operated only during the high season. During the low season, year-round residents will notice that the city is a substantially quieter place to live.

Overall, Ferryville’s crime rate is one of the lowest in the nation, which makes a great place to live if safety is an important concern.

It is a fairly quiet village because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Ferryville has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Ferryville has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Ferryville than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Ferryville may be for you.

One downside of living in Ferryville, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 33.29 minutes every day commuting to work.

Being a small village, Ferryville does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Ferryville Demographics

In terms of college education, Ferryville is nearly on par with the US average for all cities of 21.84%: 17.19% of adults 25 and older in Ferryville have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Ferryville in 2010 was $23,723, which is middle income relative to Wisconsin and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $94,892 for a family of four. However, Ferryville contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Ferryville home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Ferryville residents report their race to be White. Important ancestries of people in Ferryville include Norwegian, Irish, French , and English.

The most common language spoken in Ferryville is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Italian.
