Warren Profile

Overview

Warren is a very small town located in the state of Connecticut. With a population of 1,417 people and just one neighborhood, Warren is the 167th largest community in Connecticut.

Housing costs in Warren are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don't compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in Connecticut.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns, Warren isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Warren are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Warren is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Warren who work in management occupations (13.54%), office and administrative support (11.96%), and teaching (10.23%).

Of important note, Warren is also a town of artists. Warren has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Warren’s character.

A relatively large number of people in Warren telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 8.84% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

In addition, Warren is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates", which are people who are not only wealthy and employed in professional occupations, but highly educated to boot. Urban sophisticates have urbane tastes - whether they reside in a big or small city, a suburb, or a little town. Urban sophisticates support bookstores, quality clothing stores, enjoy luxury travel, and in big cities, they are truly the patrons of the arts, attending and supporting institutions such as opera, symphony, ballet, and theatre.

Because of many things, Warren is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Warren a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The town’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Warren has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Warren’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the country, making it one of the safest places to raise a family.

Residents will find that the town is relatively quiet. This is because it is not over-populated, and it has fewer college students, renters, and young children - all of whom can be noisy at times. So, if you're looking for a relatively peaceful place to live, Warren is worth considering.

In Warren, however, the average commute to work is quite long. On average, people spend 35.67 minutes each day getting to work, which is significantly higher than the national average. One bright side is that local public transit is widely used, so it may be an option to avoid the headache of driving in the heavy traffic by leaving the car at home and taking transit.

Despite being a small town, Warren has a lot of people using the subway to get to and from work every day. Most of these people on the subway are using it to get to good jobs in other cities.

Warren Demographics

Warren is one of the most well-educated cities in the nation. 46.20% of adults in Warren have at least a bachelor's degree. Compare that to the average community in America, which has just 21.84% with a bachelor's degree or higher.

The per capita income in Warren in 2010 was $53,578, which is wealthy relative to Connecticut and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $214,312 for a family of four. However, Warren contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.
