Lake City Profile

Overview

Lake City is a tiny town located in the state of Colorado. With a population of 367 people and just one neighborhood, Lake City is the 203rd largest community in Colorado.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Lake City is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Lake City is a town of sales and office workers, construction workers and builders, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Lake City who work in office and administrative support (20.00%), sales jobs (11.05%), and management occupations (10.53%).

Of important note, Lake City is also a town of artists. Lake City has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Lake City’s character.

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Lake City is a major vacation destination. Much of the town’s population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependent on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Lake City’s population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.

The overall crime rate in Lake City is one of the lowest in the US. This makes it one of the safer places to live in the country in terms of crime.

Residents will find that the town is relatively quiet. This is because it is not over-populated, and it has fewer college students, renters, and young children - all of whom can be noisy at times. So, if you're looking for a relatively peaceful place to live, Lake City is worth considering.

Compared to the rest of the country, citizens of Lake City spend much less time in their cars: on average, their commute to work is only 13.12 minutes. This also means that noise and pollution levels in the town are less than they would otherwise be.

Lake City is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Lake City Demographics

The education level of Lake City ranks among the highest in the nation. Of the 25-and-older adult population in Lake City, 43.67% have at least a bachelor's degree. The typical US community has just 21.84% of its adults holding a bachelor's degree or graduate degree.

The per capita income in Lake City in 2010 was $39,031, which is wealthy relative to Colorado and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $156,124 for a family of four. However, Lake City contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Lake City home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Lake City residents report their race to be White. Important ancestries of people in Lake City include English, Irish, French , and Scottish.

The most common language spoken in Lake City is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and German.
