Lake City Profile

Overview

Lake City is a tiny town located in the state of Colorado. With a population of 394 people and just one neighborhood, Lake City is the 203rd largest community in Colorado.

Housing costs in Lake City are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don't compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in Colorado.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Lake City is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Lake City is a town of professionals, construction workers and builders, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Lake City who work in office and administrative support (12.43%), management occupations (12.43%), and teaching (7.57%).

Of important note, Lake City is also a town of artists. Lake City has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Lake City’s character.

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Lake City is an extremely popular destination for tourists and seasonal residents. So much of the population is seasonal such that the town’s population swells significantly during the vacation season, and drops again when the season ends. Because of this, much of the local economy is centered around tourism; some businesses may be operated only during the high season. During the low season, year-round residents will notice that the city is a substantially quieter place to live.

Because of many things, Lake City is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Lake City really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Lake City perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic nightlife, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.

Residents will find that the town is relatively quiet. This is because it is not over-populated, and it has fewer college students, renters, and young children - all of whom can be noisy at times. So, if you're looking for a relatively peaceful place to live, Lake City is worth considering.

Residents of the town have the good fortune of having one of the shortest daily commutes compared to the rest of the country. On average, they spend only 9.93 minutes getting to work every day.

As is often the case in a small town, Lake City doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Lake City Demographics

The education level of Lake City ranks among the highest in the nation. Of the 25-and-older adult population in Lake City, 43.23% have at least a bachelor's degree. The typical US community has just 21.84% of its adults holding a bachelor's degree or graduate degree.

The per capita income in Lake City in 2018 was $31,400, which is middle income relative to Colorado, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $125,600 for a family of four. However, Lake City contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Lake City is a somewhat ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Lake City home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Lake City residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Lake City include German, English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh.

The most common language spoken in Lake City is English. Other important languages spoken here include Tagalog and Spanish.
