Creede Profile

Overview

Creede is a tiny town located in the state of Colorado. With a population of 294 people and just one neighborhood, Creede is the 213th largest community in Colorado. Much of the housing stock in Creede was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.

Housing costs in Creede are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don't compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in Colorado.

Occupations and Workforce

Creede is neither predominantly blue-collar nor white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Creede is a town of sales and office workers, managers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Creede who work in management occupations (23.47%), sales jobs (21.43%), and office and administrative support (7.14%).

And if you like science, one thing you'll find is that Creede has lots of scientists living in town - whether they be life scientists, physical scientists (like astronomers), or social scientists (like geographers!). So, if you're scientific-minded, you might like it here too.

A relatively large number of people in Creede telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 10.20% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Creede is a major vacation destination. Much of the town’s population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependent on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Creede’s population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.

Residents will find that the town is relatively quiet. This is because it is not over-populated, and it has fewer college students, renters, and young children - all of whom can be noisy at times. So, if you're looking for a relatively peaceful place to live, Creede is worth considering.

One of the benefits of Creede is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 14.66 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.

For a small town, Creede has a lot of people who use public transit to get to work, and those that do mostly ride the train. This suggests that a real need for low-cost transportation in Creede exists, and local transit is helping to meet that need.

Creede Demographics

The overall education level of Creede citizens is substantially higher than the typical US community, as 33.15% of adults in Creede have at least a bachelor's degree, and the average American community has 21.84%.

The per capita income in Creede in 2010 was $26,618, which is middle income relative to Colorado, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $106,472 for a family of four. However, Creede contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Creede home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Creede residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Creede include English, Irish, Hungarian, and Polish.

The most common language spoken in Creede is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Slavic languages.
