Living in Bassett

Bassett is a very small town located in the state of Virginia. With a population of 1,028 people and three constituent neighborhoods, Bassett is the 285th largest community in Virginia.

Of important note, Bassett is also a town of artists. Bassett has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Bassett’s character.

Also of interest is that Bassett has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

A relatively large number of people in Bassett telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 9.52% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Bassett has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Bassett has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Bassett than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Bassett may be for you.

As is often the case in a small town, Bassett doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

In terms of college education, Bassett is nearly on par with the US average for all cities of 21.84%: 19.03% of adults 25 and older in Bassett have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Bassett in 2018 was $18,838, which is low income relative to Virginia and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $75,352 for a family of four.

Bassett is an extremely ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Bassett home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Bassett residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Bassett also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 13.88% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Bassett include English, Irish, German, Polish, and Welsh.
