With 1,532,233 people, 497,794 houses or apartments, and a median cost of homes of $159,727, house prices in San Antonio are solidly below the national average.

Single-family detached homes are the single most common housing type in San Antonio, accounting for 62.97% of the city's housing units. Other types of housing that are prevalent in San Antonio include large apartment complexes or high rise apartments ( 26.61%), duplexes, homes converted to apartments or other small apartment buildings ( 6.37%), and a few row houses and other attached homes ( 2.52%).
