Rice Profile

Overview

Rice is a tiny city located in the state of Texas. With a population of 974 people and just one neighborhood, Rice is the 839th largest community in Texas.

Occupations and Workforce

When you are in Rice, you'll notice that it is more blue-collar than most other communities in America. 48.72% of Rice’s employed work in blue-collar jobs, while America averages only 27.7% that do. Overall, Rice is a city of construction workers and builders, sales and office workers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Rice who work in sales jobs (10.00%), teaching (9.74%), and office and administrative support (6.15%).

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet city because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Rice has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Rice has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Rice than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Rice may be for you.

As is often the case in a small city, Rice doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Rice Demographics

In Rice, just 11.58% of people have at least a bachelor's degree, which is quite a bit lower than the national average for cities and towns of 21.84%.

The per capita income in Rice in 2018 was $20,530, which is lower middle income relative to Texas and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $82,120 for a family of four. However, Rice contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Rice is a very ethnically-diverse city. The people who call Rice home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Rice residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Rice also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 21.59% of the city’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Rice include Irish, German, Italian, Czech, and English.

The most common language spoken in Rice is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Italian.
