Colmesneil Profile

Overview

Colmesneil is a tiny city located in the state of Texas. With a population of 584 people and just one neighborhood, Colmesneil is the 922nd largest community in Texas.

Occupations and Workforce

Colmesneil is neither predominantly blue-collar nor white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Colmesneil is a city of service providers, sales and office workers, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Colmesneil who work in office and administrative support (13.16%), law enforcement and fire fighting (13.16%), and management occupations (9.40%).

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 7.47% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet city because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Colmesneil has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Colmesneil has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Colmesneil than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Colmesneil may be for you.

As is often the case in a small city, Colmesneil doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Colmesneil Demographics

In Colmesneil, just 8.82% of people over 25 hold a college degree, which is very low compared to the rest of the nation, whereas the average among all cities is 21.84%.

The per capita income in Colmesneil in 2010 was $24,095, which is upper middle income relative to Texas, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $96,380 for a family of four. However, Colmesneil contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Colmesneil is a somewhat ethnically-diverse city. The people who call Colmesneil home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Colmesneil residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Colmesneil include German, English, Scottish, and Dutch.

The most common language spoken in Colmesneil is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Korean.
