Faulkton Profile

Overview

Faulkton is a tiny city located in the state of South Dakota. With a population of 740 people and just one neighborhood, Faulkton is the 80th largest community in South Dakota.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some cities, Faulkton isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Faulkton are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Faulkton is a city of service providers, sales and office workers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Faulkton who work in office and administrative support (11.90%), sales jobs (11.90%), and management occupations (9.00%).

Setting & Lifestyle

Overall, Faulkton’s crime rate is one of the lowest in the nation, which makes a great place to live if safety is an important concern.

It is a fairly quiet city because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Faulkton has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Faulkton has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Faulkton than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Faulkton may be for you.

One of the benefits of Faulkton is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 9.54 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.

As is often the case in a small city, Faulkton doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Faulkton Demographics

The education level of Faulkton citizens, measured as those with bachelor's degrees or advanced degrees, is similar to the national average for all American cities and towns. 17.80% of adults 25 and older in Faulkton have a college degree.

The per capita income in Faulkton in 2010 was $24,640, which is upper middle income relative to South Dakota, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $98,560 for a family of four. However, Faulkton contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Faulkton home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Faulkton residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Faulkton include Irish, Norwegian, English, and Swedish.

The most common language spoken in Faulkton is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Native American languages.
