Crooks Profile

Overview

Crooks is a very small city located in the state of South Dakota. With a population of 1,329 people and just one neighborhood, Crooks is the 54th largest community in South Dakota.

Crooks real estate is some of the most expensive in South Dakota, although Crooks house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some cities where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Crooks is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Crooks is a city of sales and office workers, professionals, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Crooks who work in office and administrative support (17.28%), sales jobs (11.63%), and management occupations (6.74%).

Setting & Lifestyle

Because of many things, Crooks is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Crooks a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The city’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Crooks has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Crooks’s overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.

Crooks is a small city, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Crooks Demographics

The education level of Crooks citizens, measured as those with bachelor's degrees or advanced degrees, is similar to the national average for all American cities and towns. 20.85% of adults 25 and older in Crooks have a college degree.

The per capita income in Crooks in 2010 was $26,700, which is wealthy relative to South Dakota, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $106,800 for a family of four. However, Crooks contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Crooks home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Crooks residents report their race to be White, followed by Native Hawaiian. Important ancestries of people in Crooks include Norwegian, Dutch, Irish, and English.

The most common language spoken in Crooks is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and African languages.
