Tionesta profile

Living in Tionesta

Tionesta is a tiny borough located in the state of Pennsylvania. With a population of 422 people and two associated neighborhoods, Tionesta is the 1009th largest community in Pennsylvania. Much of the housing stock in Tionesta was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic boroughs in the country.

Also of interest is that Tionesta has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 15.57% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

It is a fairly quiet borough because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Tionesta has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Tionesta has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Tionesta than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Tionesta may be for you.

Being a small borough, Tionesta does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

In terms of college education, the citizens of Tionesta rank slightly lower than the national average. 14.55% of adults 25 and older in Tionesta have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree, while 21.84% of adults have a 4-year degree or higher in the average American community.

The per capita income in Tionesta in 2018 was $32,203, which is middle income relative to Pennsylvania and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $128,812 for a family of four. However, Tionesta contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Tionesta home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Tionesta residents report their race to be White. Important ancestries of people in Tionesta include German, Irish, English, Italian, and Polish.

The most common language spoken in Tionesta is English. Other important languages spoken here include Italian and Polish.
