Pocono Lake profile

Living in Pocono Lake

Pocono Lake is a very small town located in the state of Pennsylvania. With a population of 4,069 people and two associated neighborhoods, Pocono Lake is the 382nd largest community in Pennsylvania.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 13.71% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Another notable thing is that Pocono Lake is a major vacation destination. Much of the town’s population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependent on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Pocono Lake’s population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.

The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Pocono Lake has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Pocono Lake a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

One downside of living in Pocono Lake, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 43.40 minutes every day commuting to work. However, local public transit is widely used. For those who would prefer to avoid driving entirely and leave their car at home, it may be an option to use the transit instead.

Even though Pocono Lake is a smaller town, it has many people who hop on public transportation – mostly the bus for their daily commute to work. Typically, these people are commuting to good jobs in the surrounding cities.

The percentage of people in Pocono Lake who are college-educated is somewhat higher than the average US community of 21.84%: 28.61% of adults in Pocono Lake have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Pocono Lake in 2018 was $41,564, which is upper middle income relative to Pennsylvania and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $166,256 for a family of four. However, Pocono Lake contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.
