Oley is a very small town located in the state of Pennsylvania. With a population of 1,244 people and just one neighborhood, Oley is the 784th largest community in Pennsylvania. Much of the housing stock in Oley was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
Oley real estate is some of the most expensive in Pennsylvania, although Oley house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Oley is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Oley is a town of sales and office workers, service providers, and transportation and shipping workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Oley who work in office and administrative support (33.40%), maintenance occupations (8.73%), and food service (5.88%).
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 7.82% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Because of many things, Oley is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Oley a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The town’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Oley has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Oley’s overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.
It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Oley has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Oley has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Oley than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Oley may be for you.
Being a small town, Oley does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
In terms of college education, Oley is nearly on par with the US average for all cities of 21.84%: 20.52% of adults 25 and older in Oley have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.
The per capita income in Oley in 2018 was $32,064, which is upper middle income relative to Pennsylvania and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $128,256 for a family of four. However, Oley contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.
The people who call Oley home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Oley residents report their race to be White. Important ancestries of people in Oley include German, Pennsylvania German, Italian, Lithuanian, and French Canadian.
The most common language spoken in Oley is English. Other important languages spoken here include Italian and Polish.
