Weston Profile

Overview

Weston is a tiny city located in the state of Oregon. With a population of 647 people and just one neighborhood, Weston is the 187th largest community in Oregon. Much of the housing stock in Weston was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic cities in the country.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some cities where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Weston is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Weston is a city of sales and office workers, service providers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Weston who work in sales jobs (19.13%), personal care services (14.35%), and management occupations (12.17%).

A relatively large number of people in Weston telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 8.77% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

The city is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Weston has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Weston a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

Weston is a small city, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Weston Demographics

The percentage of people in Weston with college degrees is quite a bit lower than the national average for cities and towns of 21.84%: just 11.72% of people over 25 have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Weston in 2010 was $22,552, which is middle income relative to Oregon and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $90,208 for a family of four. However, Weston contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Weston home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Weston residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Important ancestries of people in Weston include English, Irish, French , and Swedish.

The most common language spoken in Weston is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Other Indo-European.
