Pleasant Hill Profile

Overview

Pleasant Hill is a somewhat small town located in the state of Oregon. With a population of 5,385 people and just one neighborhood, Pleasant Hill is the 78th largest community in Oregon.

Pleasant Hill home prices are not only among the most expensive in Oregon, but Pleasant Hill real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Pleasant Hill is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Pleasant Hill is a town of managers, sales and office workers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Pleasant Hill who work in management occupations (17.95%), office and administrative support (11.02%), and sales jobs (10.60%).

Also of interest is that Pleasant Hill has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 7.28% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Pleasant Hill has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Pleasant Hill has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Pleasant Hill than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Pleasant Hill may be for you.

Being a small town, Pleasant Hill does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Pleasant Hill Demographics

The citizens of Pleasant Hill are slightly better educated than the national average of 21.84% for all cities and towns, with 24.01% of adults in Pleasant Hill having a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Pleasant Hill in 2010 was $31,561, which is wealthy relative to Oregon and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $126,244 for a family of four. However, Pleasant Hill contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Pleasant Hill home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Pleasant Hill residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Important ancestries of people in Pleasant Hill include Irish, English, Italian, and Scandinavian.

The most common language spoken in Pleasant Hill is English. Other important languages spoken here include German and Scandinavian languages.
