Okeene Profile

Overview

Okeene is a very small town located in the state of Oklahoma. With a population of 1,213 people and just one neighborhood, Okeene is the 199th largest community in Oklahoma.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Okeene is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Okeene is a town of sales and office workers, service providers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Okeene who work in office and administrative support (13.01%), sales jobs (11.95%), and management occupations (9.67%).

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 7.91% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Overall, Okeene’s crime rate is one of the lowest in the nation, which makes a great place to live if safety is an important concern.

The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Okeene has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Okeene a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

Residents of the town have the good fortune of having one of the shortest daily commutes compared to the rest of the country. On average, they spend only 13.00 minutes getting to work every day.

Being a small town, Okeene does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Okeene Demographics

The citizens of Okeene are slightly less educated than the national average of 21.84% for the average city or town: 16.09% of adults in Okeene have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree

The per capita income in Okeene in 2010 was $22,658, which is upper middle income relative to Oklahoma, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $90,632 for a family of four. However, Okeene contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Okeene home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Okeene residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Okeene include Irish, English, Russian, and Polish.
