Goodwell Profile

Overview

Goodwell is a very small town located in the state of Oklahoma. With a population of 1,326 people and just one neighborhood, Goodwell is the 185th largest community in Oklahoma.

Occupations and Workforce

Goodwell is neither predominantly blue-collar nor white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Goodwell is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Goodwell who work in teaching (13.66%), office and administrative support (13.54%), and sales jobs (11.06%).

Setting & Lifestyle

Goodwell is a small town where college students really create the town feel and character. So many small towns have lost population over the last 20-30 years that having the local college presence in the Goodwell area, with all of the energy of the students filling area dorms and apartments each fall, really helps Goodwell maintain a good economy.

Goodwell’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the nation, making it a very safe place to live.

One of the benefits of Goodwell is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 16.49 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.

As is often the case in a small town, Goodwell doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Goodwell Demographics

The education level of Goodwell ranks among the highest in the nation. Of the 25-and-older adult population in Goodwell, 42.36% have at least a bachelor's degree. The typical US community has just 21.84% of its adults holding a bachelor's degree or graduate degree.

The per capita income in Goodwell in 2010 was $16,628, which is lower middle income relative to Oklahoma, and low income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $66,512 for a family of four. However, Goodwell contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Goodwell is a very ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Goodwell home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Goodwell residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Goodwell also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 12.82% of the town’s residents.
