Glencoe Profile

Overview

Glencoe is a tiny town located in the state of Oklahoma. With a population of 606 people and just one neighborhood, Glencoe is the 271st largest community in Oklahoma.

Glencoe real estate is some of the most expensive in Oklahoma, although Glencoe house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Glencoe is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 36.59% of the Glencoe workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 27.7%. Overall, Glencoe is a town of construction workers and builders, professionals, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Glencoe who work in office and administrative support (15.61%), food service (11.71%), and art, media, and design (8.29%).

Of important note, Glencoe is also a town of artists. Glencoe has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Glencoe’s character.

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Glencoe has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Glencoe has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Glencoe than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Glencoe may be for you.

In Glencoe, however, the average commute to work is quite long. On average, people spend 30.39 minutes each day getting to work, which is significantly higher than the national average.

Glencoe Demographics

The percentage of adults in Glencoe with college degrees is slightly lower than the national average of 21.84% for all communities. 13.92% of adults in Glencoe have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Glencoe in 2010 was $13,714, which is low income relative to Oklahoma and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $54,856 for a family of four.

Glencoe is a somewhat ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Glencoe home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Glencoe residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Glencoe include German, Dutch, Scots-Irish, and Canadian.

The most common language spoken in Glencoe is English. Other important languages spoken here include Arabic and Spanish.
