Manchester Profile

Overview

Manchester is a very small village located in the state of Ohio. With a population of 1,976 people and just one neighborhood, Manchester is the 437th largest community in Ohio.

Occupations and Workforce

Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Manchester is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 36.15% of the Manchester workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 27.7%. Overall, Manchester is a village of service providers, construction workers and builders, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Manchester who work in sales jobs (13.92%), food service (11.11%), and management occupations (6.61%).

Also of interest is that Manchester has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 8.13% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
