Tivoli Profile

Overview

Tivoli is a very small village located in the state of New York. With a population of 1,099 people and just one neighborhood, Tivoli is the 711th largest community in New York.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some villages where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Tivoli is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Tivoli is a village of service providers, professionals, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Tivoli who work in teaching (13.66%), office and administrative support (11.49%), and maintenance occupations (10.50%).

Of important note, Tivoli is also a village of artists. Tivoli has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Tivoli’s character.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 8.02% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Tivoli is a small town with a large college student population. Because of this, there is a real youthful, hip vibe to the place, and much of the life in the town is centered on the college. This has helped Tivoli to buck the trend of other small towns that have suffered declining populations over the past 20 to 30 years. Spending by students, and faculty and staff jobs, are a big part of the local economy.

In Tivoli, a lot of people use the bus to get to work every day though Tivoli is a relatively small village. Those that ride the bus are primarily traveling out of town to good jobs in other cities.

Tivoli Demographics

The citizens of Tivoli are very well educated compared to the average community in the nation: 34.04% of adults in Tivoli have a bachelor's degree or even advanced degree.

The per capita income in Tivoli in 2010 was $25,519, which is lower middle income relative to New York, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $102,076 for a family of four. However, Tivoli contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Tivoli home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Tivoli residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Tivoli also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 13.57% of the village’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Tivoli include Italian, German, English, and Scottish.

The most common language spoken in Tivoli is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Thai.
