Stone Ridge Profile

Overview

Stone Ridge is a very small town located in the state of New York. With a population of 1,161 people and just one neighborhood, Stone Ridge is the 701st largest community in New York.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns, Stone Ridge isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Stone Ridge are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Stone Ridge is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Stone Ridge who work in sales jobs (19.52%), healthcare (13.41%), and teaching (7.45%).

Also of interest is that Stone Ridge has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Of important note, Stone Ridge is also a town of artists. Stone Ridge has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Stone Ridge’s character.

Setting & Lifestyle

In addition, Stone Ridge is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates", which are people who are not only wealthy and employed in professional occupations, but highly educated to boot. Urban sophisticates have urbane tastes - whether they reside in a big or small city, a suburb, or a little town. Urban sophisticates support bookstores, quality clothing stores, enjoy luxury travel, and in big cities, they are truly the patrons of the arts, attending and supporting institutions such as opera, symphony, ballet, and theatre.

Because of many things, Stone Ridge is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Stone Ridge really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Stone Ridge perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic nightlife, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Stone Ridge has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Stone Ridge has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Stone Ridge than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Stone Ridge may be for you.

One downside of living in Stone Ridge, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 32.96 minutes every day commuting to work. However, local public transit is widely used. For those who would prefer to avoid driving entirely and leave their car at home, it may be an option to use the transit instead.

In Stone Ridge, a lot of people use the subway to get to work every day though Stone Ridge is a relatively small town. Those that ride the subway are primarily traveling out of town to good jobs in other cities.
