Cutchogue Profile

Overview

Cutchogue is a very small coastal town (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of New York. With a population of 3,394 people and just one neighborhood, Cutchogue is the 433rd largest community in New York.

Cutchogue home prices are not only among the most expensive in New York, but Cutchogue real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns, Cutchogue isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Cutchogue are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Cutchogue is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Cutchogue who work in management occupations (16.83%), office and administrative support (14.64%), and healthcare (8.72%).

Also of interest is that Cutchogue has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Cutchogue is a major vacation destination. Much of the town’s population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependent on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Cutchogue’s population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.

Cutchogue is a good choice for families with children because of several factors. Many other families with children live here, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The town’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic success. Many people own their own single-family homes, providing areas for children to play and stability in the community. Finally, Cutchogue’s overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.

Cutchogue is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Quite often, nautical areas such as these attract visitors and locals who come to enjoy the scenery and various waterfront activities.

In Cutchogue, a lot of people use the bus to get to work every day though Cutchogue is a relatively small town. Those that ride the bus are primarily traveling out of town to good jobs in other cities.

Cutchogue Demographics

The citizens of Cutchogue are very well educated compared to the average community in the nation: 39.97% of adults in Cutchogue have a bachelor's degree or even advanced degree.

The per capita income in Cutchogue in 2010 was $42,743, which is wealthy relative to New York and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $170,972 for a family of four.
