Burdett is a tiny village located in the state of New York. With a population of 330 people and just one neighborhood, Burdett is the 886th largest community in New York. Much of the housing stock in Burdett was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic villages in the country.
Occupations and Workforce
Unlike some villages where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Burdett is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Burdett is a village of professionals, service providers and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Burdett who work in management occupations (17.14%), food service (10.86%) and teaching (10.29%).
Of important note, Burdett is also a village of artists. Burdett has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Burdett’s character.
Setting & Lifestyle
Burdett is a good choice for families with children because of several factors. Many other families with children live here, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The village’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic success. Many people own their own single-family homes, providing areas for children to play and stability in the community. Finally, Burdett’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the country, making it one of the safest places to raise a family.
The village is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Burdett has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Burdett a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.
Even though Burdett is a smaller village, it has many people who hop on public transportation – mostly the bus for their daily commute to work. Typically, these people are commuting to good jobs in the surrounding cities.
