Burdett Profile

Overview

Burdett is a tiny village located in the state of New York. With a population of 326 people and just one neighborhood, Burdett is the 886th largest community in New York. Burdett has a large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic villages in the country.

Occupations and Workforce

Burdett is neither predominantly blue-collar nor white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Burdett is a village of professionals, service providers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Burdett who work in management occupations (17.14%), food service (10.86%), and teaching (10.29%).

Of important note, Burdett is also a village of artists. Burdett has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Burdett’s character.

Setting & Lifestyle

Burdett is a good choice for families with children because of several factors. Many other families with children live here, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The village’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic success. Many people own their own single-family homes, providing areas for children to play and stability in the community. Finally, Burdett’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the country, making it one of the safest places to raise a family.

It is a fairly quiet village because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Burdett has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Burdett has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Burdett than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Burdett may be for you.

In Burdett, a lot of people use the bus to get to work every day though Burdett is a relatively small village. Those that ride the bus are primarily traveling out of town to good jobs in other cities.

Burdett Demographics

The education level of Burdett citizens is a little higher than the average for US cities and towns: 24.18% of adults in Burdett have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Burdett in 2010 was $26,648, which is middle income relative to New York, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $106,592 for a family of four. However, Burdett contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Burdett home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Burdett residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Burdett include Italian, English, Irish, and French .

The most common language spoken in Burdett is English. Other important languages spoken here include French and African languages.
