Skillman Profile

Overview

Skillman is a tiny town located in the state of New Jersey. With a population of 247 people and just one neighborhood, Skillman is the 493rd largest community in New Jersey.

Skillman home prices are not only among the most expensive in New Jersey, but Skillman real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.

Occupations and Workforce

When you are in Skillman, you'll notice that it is more blue-collar than most other communities in America. 61.80% of Skillman’s employed work in blue-collar jobs, while America averages only 27.7% that do. Overall, Skillman is a town of transportation and shipping workers, managers, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Skillman who work in business and financial occupations (22.47%), food service (15.73%), and farm management occupations (10.11%).

Setting & Lifestyle

In addition, Skillman is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates". Urban sophisticates are people who are both educated and wealthy, and thus tend to be older, richer, and more established than young professionals. "Urban sophisticates" is not just about being educated and well-off financially: it is a point of view and state of mind, one that you might call 'urbaneness'. But such people can and do regularly live in small towns, suburbs and rural areas, as well as in big cities. They read, support the arts and high-end shops, and love travel.

Because of many things, Skillman is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Skillman really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Skillman perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic nightlife, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.

The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Skillman has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Skillman a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

One of the benefits of Skillman is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 14.41 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.

Being a small town, Skillman does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Skillman Demographics

The education level of Skillman citizens is very high relative to the national average among all cities (21.84%): 35.42% of adults in Skillman have a bachelor's degree or even advanced degree.

The per capita income in Skillman in 2010 was $31,772, which is lower middle income relative to New Jersey, and wealthy relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $127,088 for a family of four.

The greatest number of Skillman residents report their race to be White. Important ancestries of people in Skillman include German, European, Italian, and Yugoslavian.
