Bradley Beach Profile

Overview

Bradley Beach is a very small coastal borough (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of New Jersey. With a population of 4,268 people and just one neighborhood, Bradley Beach is the 348th largest community in New Jersey. Bradley Beach has a large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic boroughs in the country.

Bradley Beach home prices are not only among the most expensive in New Jersey, but Bradley Beach real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some boroughs where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Bradley Beach is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Bradley Beach is a borough of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Bradley Beach who work in office and administrative support (14.51%), sales jobs (12.55%), and teaching (11.35%).

Also of interest is that Bradley Beach has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 8.38% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Bradley Beach is an extremely popular vacation destination. A significant portion of the population is seasonal. During the vacation season, the borough experiences a large influx of people who take up residence in second homes they own in the area. As the vacation season ends, the population drops again, leaving behind a substantially quieter and smaller borough.

Bradley Beach is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery.

Despite being a small borough, Bradley Beach has a lot of people using the train to get to and from work every day. Most of these people on the train are using it to get to good jobs in other cities.

Bradley Beach Demographics

The education level of Bradley Beach citizens is very high relative to the national average among all cities (21.84%): 37.81% of adults in Bradley Beach have a bachelor's degree or even advanced degree.

The per capita income in Bradley Beach in 2010 was $39,176, which is middle income relative to New Jersey, and wealthy relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $156,704 for a family of four. However, Bradley Beach contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Bradley Beach is a somewhat ethnically-diverse borough. The people who call Bradley Beach home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Bradley Beach residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Bradley Beach also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 12.54% of the borough’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Bradley Beach include Irish, German, Polish, and English.

The most common language spoken in Bradley Beach is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Hebrew.
