Coinjock Profile

Overview

Coinjock is a tiny coastal town (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of North Carolina. With a population of 337 people and just one neighborhood, Coinjock is the 521st largest community in North Carolina.

Coinjock real estate is some of the most expensive in North Carolina, although Coinjock house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Coinjock is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Coinjock is a town of service providers, managers, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Coinjock who work in food service (27.43%), management occupations (17.14%), and business and financial occupations (8.00%).

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 17.14% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Coinjock’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the nation, making it a very safe place to live.

Residents will find that the town is relatively quiet. This is because it is not over-populated, and it has fewer college students, renters, and young children - all of whom can be noisy at times. So, if you're looking for a relatively peaceful place to live, Coinjock is worth considering.

One of the nice things about Coinjock is that it is nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Because of this, visitors and locals will often go to these areas to take in the scenery or to enjoy waterfront activities.

Coinjock is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Coinjock Demographics

In terms of college education, Coinjock is substantially better educated than the typical community in the nation, which has 21.84% of the adults holding a bachelor's degree or graduate degree: 29.15% of adults in Coinjock have a college degree.

The per capita income in Coinjock in 2018 was $18,642, which is low income relative to North Carolina and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $74,568 for a family of four. However, Coinjock contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Coinjock is a very ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Coinjock home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Coinjock residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Coinjock also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 11.87% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Coinjock include Irish, German, Italian, Dutch, and Ukrainian.
