Manhattan is a very small town located in the state of Montana. With a population of 1,750 people and just one neighborhood, Manhattan is the 54th largest community in Montana.
Manhattan home prices are not only among the most expensive in Montana, but Manhattan real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.
Manhattan is neither predominantly blue-collar nor white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Manhattan is a town of sales and office workers, service providers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Manhattan who work in office and administrative support (17.07%), management occupations (10.08%), and maintenance occupations (9.41%).
A relatively large number of people in Manhattan telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 7.71% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Because of many things, Manhattan is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Manhattan a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The town’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Manhattan has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Manhattan’s overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.
Manhattan is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
In terms of college education, Manhattan is substantially better educated than the typical community in the nation, which has 21.84% of the adults holding a bachelor's degree or graduate degree: 33.54% of adults in Manhattan have a college degree.
The per capita income in Manhattan in 2010 was $31,560, which is wealthy relative to Montana, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $126,240 for a family of four. However, Manhattan contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.
The people who call Manhattan home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Manhattan residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Manhattan include German, Norwegian, Irish, English, and French.
The most common language spoken in Manhattan is English. Other important languages spoken here include Italian and Polish.
