Elliston Profile

Overview

Elliston is a tiny town located in the state of Montana. With a population of 218 people and just one neighborhood, Elliston is the 122nd largest community in Montana.

Occupations and Workforce

Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Elliston is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 39.11% of the Elliston workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 27.7%. Overall, Elliston is a town of construction workers and builders, service providers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Elliston who work in management occupations (18.99%), healthcare suport services (12.29%), and office and administrative support (6.15%).

Also of interest is that Elliston has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 19.55% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Elliston is a good choice for families with children because of several factors. Many other families with children live here, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The town’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic success. Many people own their own single-family homes, providing areas for children to play and stability in the community. Finally, Elliston’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the country, making it one of the safest places to raise a family.

Elliston is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Elliston Demographics

The citizens of Elliston are slightly better educated than the national average of 21.84% for all cities and towns, with 24.31% of adults in Elliston having a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Elliston in 2010 was $31,918, which is wealthy relative to Montana and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $127,672 for a family of four. However, Elliston contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Elliston home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Elliston residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Important ancestries of people in Elliston include German, English, Norwegian, and Finnish.

The most common language spoken in Elliston is English. Other important languages spoken here include African languages and Hebrew.
