Crow Agency Profile

Overview

Crow Agency is a very small town located in the state of Montana. With a population of 1,662 people and just one neighborhood, Crow Agency is the 52nd largest community in Montana.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Crow Agency is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Crow Agency is a town of service providers, sales and office workers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Crow Agency who work in office and administrative support (16.18%), personal care services (8.90%), and food service (8.58%).

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 18.76% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

One of the benefits of Crow Agency is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 11.76 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.

Being a small town, Crow Agency does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Crow Agency Demographics

The percentage of people in Crow Agency with college degrees is quite a bit lower than the national average for cities and towns of 21.84%: just 12.15% of people over 25 have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Crow Agency in 2010 was $12,646, which is low income relative to Montana and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $50,584 for a family of four. However, Crow Agency contains both very wealthy and poor people as well. Crow Agency also has one of the higher rates of people living in poverty in the nation, with 33.58% of its population below the federal poverty line.

The people who call Crow Agency home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Crow Agency residents report their race to be Native American, followed by White. Important ancestries of people in Crow Agency include English, Irish, French Canadian, and Yugoslavian.
