Lake Lotawana Profile

Overview

Lake Lotawana is a very small city located in the state of Missouri. With a population of 2,018 people and just one neighborhood, Lake Lotawana is the 254th largest community in Missouri.

Lake Lotawana home prices are not only among the most expensive in Missouri, but Lake Lotawana real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.

Occupations and Workforce

Lake Lotawana is a decidedly white-collar city, with fully 86.78% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Lake Lotawana is a city of sales and office workers, professionals, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Lake Lotawana who work in management occupations (16.96%), office and administrative support (16.38%), and sales jobs (14.05%).

Also of interest is that Lake Lotawana has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Lake Lotawana is a major vacation destination. Much of the city’s population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependent on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Lake Lotawana’s population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.

In addition, Lake Lotawana is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates". Urban sophisticates are people who are both educated and wealthy, and thus tend to be older, richer, and more established than young professionals. "Urban sophisticates" is not just about being educated and well-off financially: it is a point of view and state of mind, one that you might call 'urbaneness'. But such people can and do regularly live in small towns, suburbs and rural areas, as well as in big cities. They read, support the arts and high-end shops, and love travel.

Because of many things, Lake Lotawana is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Lake Lotawana really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Lake Lotawana perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic nightlife, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.

The city is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Lake Lotawana has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Lake Lotawana a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

One downside of living in Lake Lotawana, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 30.92 minutes every day commuting to work.

Lake Lotawana is a small city, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Lake Lotawana Demographics

The education level of Lake Lotawana ranks among the highest in the nation. Of the 25-and-older adult population in Lake Lotawana, 42.90% have at least a bachelor's degree. The typical US community has just 21.84% of its adults holding a bachelor's degree or graduate degree.

The per capita income in Lake Lotawana in 2010 was $45,672, which is wealthy relative to Missouri and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $182,688 for a family of four. However, Lake Lotawana contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Lake Lotawana home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Lake Lotawana residents report their race to be White. Important ancestries of people in Lake Lotawana include Irish, English, French , and Italian.

The most common language spoken in Lake Lotawana is English. Other important languages spoken here include Arabic and Spanish.
