Delton Profile

Overview

Delton is a tiny town located in the state of Michigan. With a population of 878 people and just one neighborhood, Delton is the 491st largest community in Michigan.

Occupations and Workforce

Delton is neither predominantly blue-collar nor white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Delton is a town of service providers, professionals, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Delton who work in management occupations (11.11%), teaching (9.66%), and computer science and math (9.18%).

Also of interest is that Delton has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 7.25% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Delton has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Delton a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

One downside of living in Delton is that it can take a long time to commute to work. In Delton, the average commute to work is 38.09 minutes, which is quite a bit higher than the national average.

As is often the case in a small town, Delton doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Delton Demographics

The education level of Delton citizens is a little higher than the average for US cities and towns: 21.97% of adults in Delton have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Delton in 2010 was $22,363, which is middle income relative to Michigan and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $89,452 for a family of four. However, Delton contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Delton home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Delton residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Delton include Irish, English, Dutch, and Polish.

The most common language spoken in Delton is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and French.
