Delton Profile

Overview

Delton is a tiny town located in the state of Michigan. With a population of 878 people and just one neighborhood, Delton is the 491st largest community in Michigan. Delton has a large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.

Delton real estate is some of the most expensive in Michigan, although Delton house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

Delton is a decidedly white-collar town, with fully 87.93% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Delton is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Delton who work in healthcare (18.27%), sales jobs (16.72%), and office and administrative support (13.00%).

Also of interest is that Delton has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Setting & Lifestyle

Because of many things, Delton is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Delton a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The town’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Delton has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Delton’s overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.

The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Delton has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Delton a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

In Delton, however, the average commute to work is quite long. On average, people spend 32.29 minutes each day getting to work, which is significantly higher than the national average.

Delton is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Delton Demographics

The education level of Delton citizens, measured as those with bachelor's degrees or advanced degrees, is similar to the national average for all American cities and towns. 20.80% of adults 25 and older in Delton have a college degree.

The per capita income in Delton in 2010 was $26,736, which is upper middle income relative to Michigan and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $106,944 for a family of four. However, Delton contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Delton home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Delton residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Delton include Dutch, Irish, English, and Austrian.

The most common language spoken in Delton is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and French.
