Covert Profile

Overview

Covert is a very small town located in the state of Michigan. With a population of 2,834 people and just one neighborhood, Covert is the 293rd largest community in Michigan.

Covert home prices are not only among the most expensive in Michigan, but Covert real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.

Occupations and Workforce

Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Covert is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 42.86% of the Covert workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 27.7%. Overall, Covert is a town of sales and office workers, production and manufacturing workers, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Covert who work in office and administrative support (17.51%), sales jobs (7.37%), and farm management occupations (6.91%).

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Covert is a major vacation destination. Much of the town’s population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependent on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Covert’s population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.

Residents will find that the town is relatively quiet. This is because it is not over-populated, and it has fewer college students, renters, and young children - all of whom can be noisy at times. So, if you're looking for a relatively peaceful place to live, Covert is worth considering.

As is often the case in a small town, Covert doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Covert Demographics

In Covert, just 10.50% of people have at least a bachelor's degree, which is quite a bit lower than the national average for cities and towns of 21.84%.

The per capita income in Covert in 2010 was $14,607, which is low income relative to Michigan and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $58,428 for a family of four. However, Covert contains both very wealthy and poor people as well. Covert also has one of the higher rates of people living in poverty in the nation, with 33.98% of its population below the federal poverty line.

Covert is an extremely ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Covert home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Covert residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Covert also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 31.83% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Covert include Irish, English, French , and Italian.

In addition, Covert has a lot of people living here who were born outside of the US (17.10%).

The most common language spoken in Covert is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Other Indo-European.
