Mousie Profile

Overview

Mousie is a very small town located in the state of Kentucky. With a population of 2,182 people and just one neighborhood, Mousie is the 177th largest community in Kentucky.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Mousie is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Mousie is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and production and manufacturing workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Mousie who work in office and administrative support (14.89%), teaching (13.17%), and sales jobs (7.84%).

Also of interest is that Mousie has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

A relatively large number of people in Mousie telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 8.77% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Overall, Mousie’s crime rate is one of the lowest in the nation, which makes a great place to live if safety is an important concern.

The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Mousie has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Mousie a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

One downside of living in Mousie is that it can take a long time to commute to work. In Mousie, the average commute to work is 30.63 minutes, which is quite a bit higher than the national average.

Mousie Demographics

In Mousie, just 10.07% of people have at least a bachelor's degree, which is quite a bit lower than the national average for cities and towns of 21.84%.

The per capita income in Mousie in 2010 was $15,982, which is lower middle income relative to Kentucky, and low income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $63,928 for a family of four. However, Mousie contains both very wealthy and poor people as well. Mousie also has one of the higher rates of people living in poverty in the nation, with 35.91% of its population below the federal poverty line.
