Whitestown Profile

Overview

Whitestown is a very small town located in the state of Indiana. With a population of 6,013 people and just one neighborhood, Whitestown is the 169th largest community in Indiana. Whitestown has seen a significant amount of newer housing growth in recent years. Quite often, new home construction is the result of new residents moving in who are middle class or wealthier, attracted by jobs, a healthy local economy, or other amenities as they leave nearby or far away areas for greener pastures. This seems to be the case in Whitestown, where the median household income is $73,402.00.

Whitestown real estate is some of the most expensive in Indiana, although Whitestown house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

Whitestown is a decidedly white-collar town, with fully 87.60% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Whitestown is a town of professionals, managers, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Whitestown who work in healthcare (14.39%), management occupations (10.81%), and business and financial occupations (10.05%).

Also of interest is that Whitestown has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Setting & Lifestyle

In addition, Whitestown is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates". Urban sophisticates are educated, wealthy, executives and professionals, who have urbane tastes in books, food, and travel, whether they actually live in a big city, or choose to reside in a small town. In big or medium-sized cities, urban sophisticates tend to frequent art institutions such as opera, symphonies, ballet, live theatre, and museums.

Because of many things, Whitestown is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Whitestown really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Whitestown perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic nightlife, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.

Being a small town, Whitestown does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Whitestown Demographics

Do you like to read, write and learn? If you move to Whitestown, you'll likely find that many of your neighbors like to as well. Whitestown is one of the more educated communities in America, with a full 51.46% of its adults having a college degree or even advanced degree, compared to a national average across all communities of 21.84%.

The per capita income in Whitestown in 2010 was $29,632, which is wealthy relative to Indiana, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $118,528 for a family of four. However, Whitestown contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Whitestown is a somewhat ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Whitestown home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Whitestown residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Whitestown include English, Irish, Polish, and Norwegian.

The most common language spoken in Whitestown is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and African languages.
