Whitestown Profile

Overview

Whitestown is a very small town located in the state of Indiana. With a population of 6,590 people and just one neighborhood, Whitestown is the 169th largest community in Indiana. There's nothing like the smell of a brand new house, and in Whitestown, you'll find that a large proportion of houses were recently built. New growth in residential real estate is an indication that people are choosing to move to Whitestown, and putting down their money on brand new construction. Whitestown’s real estate is, on average, some of the newest in the nation. Whitestown does seem to be experiencing an influx of affluent people, because the median household income is $75,183.00.

Whitestown real estate is some of the most expensive in Indiana, although Whitestown house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

Whitestown is a decidedly white-collar town, with fully 87.31% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Whitestown is a town of professionals, managers, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Whitestown who work in management occupations (16.69%), healthcare (10.15%), and office and administrative support (9.16%).

Also of interest is that Whitestown has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Of important note, Whitestown is also a town of artists. Whitestown has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Whitestown’s character.

Setting & Lifestyle

Because of many things, Whitestown is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Whitestown a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The town’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Whitestown has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Whitestown’s overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.

Whitestown is a small town, and as is often the case with smaller towns, the population isn't large or dense enough to support much in the way of a public transportation system. In fact, there are many rural roads around Whitestown, which makes walking or biking to and from work a bit difficult. This makes for a very car-oriented town: 90.61% of residents commute to work by private automobile, and people often drive out of town for work, shopping, and other activities.

Being a small town, Whitestown does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Whitestown Demographics

The education level of Whitestown ranks among the highest in the nation. Of the 25-and-older adult population in Whitestown, 49.59% have at least a bachelor's degree. The typical US community has just 21.84% of its adults holding a bachelor's degree or graduate degree.

The per capita income in Whitestown in 2010 was $28,053, which is wealthy relative to Indiana, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $112,212 for a family of four. However, Whitestown contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Whitestown is a somewhat ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Whitestown home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Whitestown residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Whitestown include Irish, English, Polish, and Italian.

The most common language spoken in Whitestown is English. Other important languages spoken here include Polish and Spanish.
