Ramsey Profile

Overview

Ramsey is a very small village located in the state of Illinois. With a population of 1,026 people and just one neighborhood, Ramsey is the 632nd largest community in Illinois.

Occupations and Workforce

Ramsey is a blue-collar town, with 35.54% of people working in blue-collar occupations, while the average in America is just 27.7%. Overall, Ramsey is a village of service providers, sales and office workers, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Ramsey who work in office and administrative support (13.02%), law enforcement and fire fighting (10.74%), and personal care services (6.40%).

Also of interest is that Ramsey has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Setting & Lifestyle

Ramsey’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the nation, making it a very safe place to live.

It is a fairly quiet village because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Ramsey has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Ramsey has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Ramsey than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Ramsey may be for you.

Ramsey is a small village, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Ramsey Demographics

Ramsey ranks among the bottom of the nation in terms of college education compared to other cities and towns: only 5.29% of people over 25 have a college degree.

The per capita income in Ramsey in 2010 was $19,140, which is low income relative to Illinois, and lower middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $76,560 for a family of four.

The people who call Ramsey home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Ramsey residents report their race to be White. Important ancestries of people in Ramsey include Irish, English, Italian, and Welsh.

The most common language spoken in Ramsey is English. Other important languages spoken here include African languages and Hebrew.
