Huntley Profile

Overview

Huntley is a medium-sized village located in the state of Illinois. With a population of 27,440 people and just one neighborhood, Huntley is the 98th largest community in Illinois. There's nothing like the smell of a brand new house, and in Huntley, you'll find that a large proportion of houses were recently built. New growth in residential real estate is an indication that people are choosing to move to Huntley, and putting down their money on brand new construction. Huntley’s real estate is, on average, some of the newest in the nation. Huntley does seem to be experiencing an influx of affluent people, because the median household income is $75,597.00.

Huntley real estate is some of the most expensive in Illinois, although Huntley house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some villages, Huntley isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Huntley are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Huntley is a village of sales and office workers, professionals, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Huntley who work in office and administrative support (14.72%), management occupations (14.04%), and sales jobs (12.53%).

Also of interest is that Huntley has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 7.89% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Because of many things, Huntley is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Huntley really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Huntley perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic nightlife, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.

One downside of living in Huntley is that it can take a long time to commute to work. In Huntley, the average commute to work is 34.38 minutes, which is quite a bit higher than the national average.

Huntley Demographics

The education level of Huntley citizens is very high relative to the national average among all cities (21.84%): 34.99% of adults in Huntley have a bachelor's degree or even advanced degree.

The per capita income in Huntley in 2010 was $38,909, which is wealthy relative to Illinois and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $155,636 for a family of four.

Huntley is a very ethnically-diverse village. The people who call Huntley home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Huntley residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Huntley also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 11.65% of the village’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Huntley include German, Polish, Irish, Italian, and English.

The most common language spoken in Huntley is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Polish.
