Star Profile

Overview

Star is a somewhat small city located in the state of Idaho. With a population of 10,532 people and just one neighborhood, Star is the 29th largest community in Idaho. Much of the housing stock in Star was built relatively recently. The construction of new real estate can often be taken as an indication that the local Star economy is robust, and that jobs or other amenities are attracting an influx of new residents. This seems to be the case in Star, where the median household income is $65,282.00.

Star home prices are not only among the most expensive in Idaho, but Star real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some cities, Star isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Star are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Star is a city of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Star who work in sales jobs (24.29%), office and administrative support (10.07%), and management occupations (6.77%).

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 13.24% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Because of many things, Star is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Star a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The city’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Star has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Star’s overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.

One downside of living in Star is that it can take a long time to commute to work. In Star, the average commute to work is 30.88 minutes, which is quite a bit higher than the national average.

As is often the case in a small city, Star doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Star Demographics

The overall education level of Star citizens is substantially higher than the typical US community, as 30.34% of adults in Star have at least a bachelor's degree, and the average American community has 21.84%.

The per capita income in Star in 2018 was $33,307, which is wealthy relative to Idaho, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $133,228 for a family of four. However, Star contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Star is a somewhat ethnically-diverse city. The people who call Star home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Star residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Star include German, English, Irish, Norwegian, and Italian.

The most common language spoken in Star is English. Other important languages spoken here include Italian and Spanish.
