Riggins Profile

Overview

Riggins is a tiny city located in the state of Idaho. With a population of 418 people and just one neighborhood, Riggins is the 111th largest community in Idaho.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some cities where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Riggins is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Riggins is a city of service providers, sales and office workers, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Riggins who work in sales jobs (17.33%), food service (15.84%), and teaching (10.89%).

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet city because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Riggins has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Riggins has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Riggins than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Riggins may be for you.

Compared to the rest of the country, citizens of Riggins spend much less time in their cars: on average, their commute to work is only 16.67 minutes. This also means that noise and pollution levels in the city are less than they would otherwise be.

As is often the case in a small city, Riggins doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Riggins Demographics

In terms of college education, Riggins is somewhat better educated than the 21.84% who have a 4-year degree or higher in the typical US community: 25.80% of adults 25 and older in the city have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Riggins in 2010 was $26,920, which is wealthy relative to Idaho, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $107,680 for a family of four. However, Riggins contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Riggins home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Riggins residents report their race to be White. Riggins also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 10.76% of the city’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Riggins include English, Irish, French , and Italian.

The most common language spoken in Riggins is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and German.
