Kooskia Profile

Overview

Kooskia is a tiny city located in the state of Idaho. With a population of 606 people and just one neighborhood, Kooskia is the 99th largest community in Idaho.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some cities, Kooskia isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Kooskia are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Kooskia is a city of service providers, transportation and shipping workers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Kooskia who work in food service (15.87%), sales jobs (10.05%), and teaching (8.47%).

Also of interest is that Kooskia has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 9.14% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

The city is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Kooskia has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Kooskia a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

Kooskia Demographics

The citizens of Kooskia have a very low rate of college education: just 7.73% of people over 25 have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree, compared to a national average of 21.84% for all cities.

The per capita income in Kooskia in 2010 was $16,800, which is lower middle income relative to Idaho, and low income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $67,200 for a family of four.

The people who call Kooskia home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Kooskia residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Kooskia include English, Irish, Norwegian, and Dutch.

The most common language spoken in Kooskia is English. Other important languages spoken here include Native American languages and Spanish.
