Sea Island is a tiny coastal town (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Georgia. With a population of 888 people and just one neighborhood, Sea Island is the 341st largest community in Georgia. There's nothing like the smell of a brand new house, and in Sea Island, you'll find that a large proportion of houses were recently built. New growth in residential real estate is an indication that people are choosing to move to Sea Island, and putting down their money on brand new construction. Sea Island’s real estate is, on average, some of the newest in the nation. Sea Island does seem to be experiencing an influx of affluent people, because the median household income is $88,378.00.
Sea Island home prices are not only among the most expensive in Georgia, but Sea Island real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.
Unlike some towns, Sea Island isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Sea Island are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Sea Island is a town of professionals, transportation and shipping workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Sea Island who work in teaching (32.22%), art, media, and design (31.67%), and business and financial occupations (13.33%).
Of important note, Sea Island is also a town of artists. Sea Island has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Sea Island’s character.
Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 31.67% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Another notable thing is that Sea Island is an extremely popular vacation destination. A significant portion of the population is seasonal. During the vacation season, the town experiences a large influx of people who take up residence in second homes they own in the area. As the vacation season ends, the population drops again, leaving behind a substantially quieter and smaller town.
In addition, Sea Island is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates". Urban sophisticates are educated, wealthy, executives and professionals, who have urbane tastes in books, food, and travel, whether they actually live in a big city, or choose to reside in a small town. In big or medium-sized cities, urban sophisticates tend to frequent art institutions such as opera, symphonies, ballet, live theatre, and museums.
It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Sea Island has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Sea Island has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Sea Island than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Sea Island may be for you.
Sea Island is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery.
Sea Island is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
Do you have a 4-year college degree or graduate degree? If so, you may feel right at home in Sea Island. 56.23% of adults here have a 4-year degree or graduate degree, whereas the national average for all cities and towns is just 21.84%.
The per capita income in Sea Island in 2018 was $56,260, which is wealthy relative to Georgia and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $225,040 for a family of four.
Sea Island is a somewhat ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Sea Island home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Sea Island residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Sea Island include French Canadian, Irish, English, Scandinavian, and Other Arab.
The most common language spoken in Sea Island is English. Other important languages spoken here include French and Spanish.
