Richland Profile

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some cities where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Richland is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Richland is a city of service providers, sales and office workers, and transportation and shipping workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Richland who work in law enforcement and fire fighting (13.67%), sales jobs (10.71%), and office and administrative support (10.02%).

Richland is home to a number of people employed in the armed forces. When you visit or walk around Richland, some of the people you will bump into will be military people In and out of uniform, jogging, shopping and generally out and about town.

Setting & Lifestyle

Overall, Richland’s crime rate is one of the lowest in the nation, which makes a great place to live if safety is an important concern.

It is a fairly quiet city because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Richland has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Richland has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Richland than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Richland may be for you.

Being a small city, Richland does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Richland Demographics

The rate of college-level education in Richland is quite a bit lower than the national average among all cities of 21.84%: just 11.38% of people here over 25 have a bachelor's degree or an advanced degree.

The per capita income in Richland in 2018 was $17,442, which is lower middle income relative to Georgia, and low income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $69,768 for a family of four.

Richland is an extremely ethnically-diverse city. The people who call Richland home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Richland residents report their race to be Black or African-American, followed by White. Important ancestries of people in Richland include English, Irish, German, Dutch, and Polish.
