Elko Profile

Overview

Elko is a very small town located in the state of Georgia. With a population of 3,800 people and just one neighborhood, Elko is the 182nd largest community in Georgia. Elko has seen a significant amount of newer housing growth in recent years. Quite often, new home construction is the result of new residents moving in who are middle class or wealthier, attracted by jobs, a healthy local economy, or other amenities as they leave nearby or far away areas for greener pastures. This seems to be the case in Elko, where the median household income is $107,330.00.

Elko real estate is some of the most expensive in Georgia, although Elko house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

Elko is a blue-collar town, with 38.86% of people working in blue-collar occupations, while the average in America is just 27.7%. Overall, Elko is a town of sales and office workers, construction workers and builders, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Elko who work in sales jobs (14.73%), office and administrative support (11.80%), and management occupations (8.74%).

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Elko has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Elko has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Elko than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Elko may be for you.

One downside of living in Elko, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 32.66 minutes every day commuting to work.

Elko is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Elko Demographics

The citizens of Elko are slightly better educated than the national average of 21.84% for all cities and towns, with 22.27% of adults in Elko having a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Elko in 2018 was $40,150, which is wealthy relative to Georgia and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $160,600 for a family of four. However, Elko contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Elko is an extremely ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Elko home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Elko residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Elko include English, Irish, Scottish, German, and Polish.
