Milliken Profile

Overview

Milliken is a somewhat small town located in the state of Colorado. With a population of 6,388 people and just one neighborhood, Milliken is the 74th largest community in Colorado. Milliken has seen a significant amount of newer housing growth in recent years. Quite often, new home construction is the result of new residents moving in who are middle class or wealthier, attracted by jobs, a healthy local economy, or other amenities as they leave nearby or far away areas for greener pastures. This seems to be the case in Milliken, where the median household income is $66,649.00.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Milliken is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Milliken is a town of sales and office workers, managers, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Milliken who work in office and administrative support (13.46%), sales jobs (12.95%), and management occupations (9.88%).

Also of interest is that Milliken has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Setting & Lifestyle

Because of many things, Milliken is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Milliken really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Milliken perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic nightlife, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.

One downside of living in Milliken, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 30.95 minutes every day commuting to work.

Milliken Demographics

In terms of college education, Milliken is nearly on par with the US average for all cities of 21.84%: 17.16% of adults 25 and older in Milliken have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Milliken in 2010 was $25,941, which is middle income relative to Colorado, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $103,764 for a family of four. However, Milliken contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Milliken home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Milliken residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Milliken also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 30.14% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Milliken include Irish, English, Polish, and Italian.

The most common language spoken in Milliken is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Arabic.
