Granby Profile

Overview

Granby is a very small town located in the state of Colorado. With a population of 1,877 people and just one neighborhood, Granby is the 127th largest community in Colorado.

Housing costs in Granby are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don't compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in Colorado.

Occupations and Workforce

Granby is neither predominantly blue-collar nor white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Granby is a town of service providers, construction workers and builders, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Granby who work in management occupations (10.68%), office and administrative support (9.25%), and sales jobs (6.48%).

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 10.96% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Granby is an extremely popular vacation destination. A significant portion of the population is seasonal. During the vacation season, the town experiences a large influx of people who take up residence in second homes they own in the area. As the vacation season ends, the population drops again, leaving behind a substantially quieter and smaller town.

The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Granby has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Granby a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

As is often the case in a small town, Granby doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Granby Demographics

The population of Granby overall has a level of education that is slightly above the US average for all US cities and towns of 21.84%. Of adults 25 and older in Granby, 22.92% have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Granby in 2010 was $28,108, which is upper middle income relative to Colorado and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $112,432 for a family of four. However, Granby contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Granby home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Granby residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Granby also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 10.25% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Granby include Irish, English, Italian, and Polish.

The most common language spoken in Granby is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Russian.
