Landers is a very small town located in the state of California. With a population of 2,777 people and two associated neighborhoods, Landers is the 620th largest community in California.
Of important note, Landers is also a town of artists. Landers has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Landers’s character.
Also of interest is that Landers has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.
Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 26.68% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Another notable thing is that Landers is a major vacation destination. Much of the town’s population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependent on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Landers’s population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.
The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Landers has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Landers a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.
One downside of living in Landers, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 42.12 minutes every day commuting to work.
The education level of Landers citizens, measured as those with bachelor's degrees or advanced degrees, is similar to the national average for all American cities and towns. 18.22% of adults 25 and older in Landers have a college degree.
The per capita income in Landers in 2022 was $38,770, which is middle income relative to California, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $155,080 for a family of four. However, Landers contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.
Landers is a very ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Landers home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Landers residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Landers also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 17.06% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Landers include Irish, German, English, Italian, and European.
The most common language spoken in Landers is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Korean.
