Foresthill Profile

Overview

Foresthill is a very small town located in the state of California. With a population of 1,565 people and just one neighborhood, Foresthill is the 670th largest community in California.

Housing costs in Foresthill are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don't compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in California.

Occupations and Workforce

Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Foresthill is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 40.37% of the Foresthill workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 27.7%. Overall, Foresthill is a town of construction workers and builders, professionals, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Foresthill who work in healthcare (12.27%), business and financial occupations (7.76%), and sales jobs (6.37%).

Of important note, Foresthill is also a town of artists. Foresthill has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Foresthill’s character.

Also of interest is that Foresthill has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 15.84% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Foresthill has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Foresthill has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Foresthill than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Foresthill may be for you.

In Foresthill, however, the average commute to work is quite long. On average, people spend 35.89 minutes each day getting to work, which is significantly higher than the national average.

Foresthill is a very car-oriented town. 96.86% of residents commute to work in a private automobile rather than by other means, such as public transit, bicycling, or walking. This is because Foresthill is a small town , and most people who live here have to drive out of town for work, and the town population is not large nor dense enough to support an extensive public transportation system. Foresthill has a lot of rural roads, and houses can be far apart. Many residents drive out of town for regular shopping trips as well.

Being a small town, Foresthill does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Foresthill Demographics

The citizens of Foresthill are slightly less educated than the national average of 21.84% for the average city or town: 13.93% of adults in Foresthill have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree

The per capita income in Foresthill in 2010 was $31,286, which is middle income relative to California, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $125,144 for a family of four. However, Foresthill contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Foresthill is a very ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Foresthill home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Foresthill residents report their race to be White. Foresthill also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 23.25% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Foresthill include English, German, Irish, French, and Italian.

The most common language spoken in Foresthill is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Italian.
