Cobb Profile

Overview

Cobb is a very small town located in the state of California. With a population of 1,764 people and just one neighborhood, Cobb is the 641st largest community in California.

Occupations and Workforce

Cobb is neither predominantly blue-collar nor white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Cobb is a town of professionals, managers, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Cobb who work in management occupations (19.43%), office and administrative support (13.97%), and personal care services (12.01%).

Also of interest is that Cobb has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 21.43% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Cobb is an extremely popular destination for tourists and seasonal residents. So much of the population is seasonal such that the town’s population swells significantly during the vacation season, and drops again when the season ends. Because of this, much of the local economy is centered around tourism; some businesses may be operated only during the high season. During the low season, year-round residents will notice that the city is a substantially quieter place to live.

Residents will find that the town is relatively quiet. This is because it is not over-populated, and it has fewer college students, renters, and young children - all of whom can be noisy at times. So, if you're looking for a relatively peaceful place to live, Cobb is worth considering.

Being a small town, Cobb does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Cobb Demographics

In terms of college education, Cobb is substantially better educated than the typical community in the nation, which has 21.84% of the adults holding a bachelor's degree or graduate degree: 31.68% of adults in Cobb have a college degree.

The per capita income in Cobb in 2010 was $29,938, which is middle income relative to California, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $119,752 for a family of four. However, Cobb contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Cobb home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Cobb residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Important ancestries of people in Cobb include German, Irish, Italian, and Ukrainian.

The most common language spoken in Cobb is English. Other important languages spoken here include Korean and African languages.
