Cobb Profile

Overview

Cobb is a very small town located in the state of California. With a population of 1,764 people and just one neighborhood, Cobb is the 641st largest community in California.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns, Cobb isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Cobb are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Cobb is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and production and manufacturing workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Cobb who work in office and administrative support (13.10%), management occupations (12.38%), and sales jobs (12.14%).

Also of interest is that Cobb has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 23.36% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Cobb is an extremely popular vacation destination. A significant portion of the population is seasonal. During the vacation season, the town experiences a large influx of people who take up residence in second homes they own in the area. As the vacation season ends, the population drops again, leaving behind a substantially quieter and smaller town.

The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Cobb has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Cobb a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

Being a small town, Cobb does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Cobb Demographics

The education level of Cobb citizens is very high relative to the national average among all cities (21.84%): 37.41% of adults in Cobb have a bachelor's degree or even advanced degree.

The per capita income in Cobb in 2010 was $31,041, which is upper middle income relative to California and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $124,164 for a family of four. However, Cobb contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Cobb is a somewhat ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Cobb home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Cobb residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Important ancestries of people in Cobb include German, Irish, Swiss, and Ukrainian.

The most common language spoken in Cobb is English. Other important languages spoken here include Korean and African languages.
