Clearlake Oaks Profile

Overview

Clearlake Oaks is a very small town located in the state of California. With a population of 2,341 people and just one neighborhood, Clearlake Oaks is the 611th largest community in California.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Clearlake Oaks is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Clearlake Oaks is a town of service providers, production and manufacturing workers, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Clearlake Oaks who work in personal care services (25.12%), management occupations (11.35%), and maintenance occupations (8.45%).

Also of interest is that Clearlake Oaks has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 15.46% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Clearlake Oaks is a major vacation destination. Much of the town’s population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependent on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Clearlake Oaks’s population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.

The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Clearlake Oaks has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Clearlake Oaks a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

As is often the case in a small town, Clearlake Oaks doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Clearlake Oaks Demographics

The percentage of people in Clearlake Oaks with college degrees is quite a bit lower than the national average for cities and towns of 21.84%: just 10.66% of people over 25 have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Clearlake Oaks in 2010 was $20,844, which is lower middle income relative to California and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $83,376 for a family of four. Clearlake Oaks also has one of the higher rates of people living in poverty in the nation, with 34.97% of its population below the federal poverty line.

Clearlake Oaks is a somewhat ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Clearlake Oaks home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Clearlake Oaks residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Clearlake Oaks include English, Irish, Italian, and Danish.

The most common language spoken in Clearlake Oaks is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and African languages.
